GSoC 2009 :: Setting Media Cloud Afloat

The Media Cloud project seeks to answer questions about the influence of one media source over another.

This GSoC project proposal (‘Setting Media Cloud Afloat’) seeks to add value by proposing visualizations (based on SIMILE TimePlot APIs and TimeMaps [SIMILE Timeline and Google Maps mashup]), an expendable “next page” detection mechanism and the implementation of Yahoo Term Extraction API to allow for rich queries.

So let’s begin with the proposed Visualizations

• Events as news drivers | Still image also available here.
• Timeline to visualize news items (may be linked up with a timeplot to visualize threads)
• Stacked View of threads [No Demo available. Blame the exams!]
• Google Charts API generated image (same as provided)
• Finally a dummy timemap
