SMU as a university provides an almost 4 month long summer break enabling the students to engage in internships, which makes a lot of sense as there is a lot that can learnt much better “on the job.

I have interned at Deloitte and Touche and have worked for Standard  Chartered Bank (through their Innovation Lab). I have also been involved for market research for a small firm while working for the UOB-SMU Entrepreneurial Alliance centre. Additionally I’ve done some freelance work and have recently been involved in a start-up named ‘Crossroads’.

Gaining real work experience with a both big and small firm helps understand the pros and cons of each. Whereas working across industries on different jobs, as a consultant to development to market research, helps gain valuable insight about the job and how all the parts of a system relate to each other.
